Tuesday

Conservatives will be really irritated to read this:

Data from the Department of Energy and other agencies show that the average poor family, as defined by Census officials: ● Lives in a home that is in good repair, not crowded, and equipped with air conditioning, clothes washer and dryer, and cable or satellite TV service. ● Prepares meals in a kitchen with a refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave as well as oven and stove. ● Enjoys two color TVs, a DVD player, VCR and — if children are there — an Xbox, PlayStation, or other video game system. ● Had enough money in the past year to meet essential needs, including adequate food and medical care.

Just imagine how I feel.  I wish I was this "poor".  I don't even need all of those things.  I can live without the DVD player, the Xbox, I don't need two T.V.'s.  Heck I have been living without it for months now.  I don't need a coffeemaker either.

You can read the article here.

  2. I've been living out of my car, trapped in a situation I created by taking a job in an expensive state. I have a job that barely covers my school debts, and my phone rings incessantly with those trained to make me feel like the bad guy and pay them what I should be using for food.

You have access to the internet. You claim to be conservative. Don't blog alone, find a community, pray and read other's stories. Your local Army Surplus store carries a can opener for under $1 called a "John Wayne".

Real conservatives find a plan and get themselves out. Our country was built on the backs of makers, not doers. God Bless you.

  3. Homeless...with "brunch" friends. Interesting.

  4. Mr. Shawn: I get into the email that I set up to do this blog, as soon as I figure out what I am doing wrong, I will send you an email.

Mr. Dave: You find my brunch friends interesting, I find it sad. As soon as my finances got tight I barely hear from them. If you are inferring that I still meet them for brunch, nothing could be further from the truth. If I had that much money I wouldn't spend it on one meal.

    Mr. 21st -
I am not an outdoorsy person. So I will have to find where there is an Army surplus store in my area. I am sorry for the situation you find yourself in. You may want to consider defering your student loans as a way of easing your finances. I also have found a community for myself. I started this blog as not only a record for myself, but in the hopes that others would find some useful information as well.

  5. My question is this: why would Conservatives be irritated to read what you have written. That "poor" people in the United States are largely not is no surprise to me. I've been 3/4 of the way around the world and have seen real poverty. We just don't have it here. Your situation not withstanding. Even then, if I understand correctly, you have rented out your apartment and still have it as an "asset" (though it may not seem that way. This is not a criticism of you, but rather a point that the "poor" in the United States are head-and-shoulders above the "poor" in the rest of the world.

  6. Mr. Deekaman:
Thanks for returning. I remember you leaving a comment previously.

I would think that conservatives would find this irritating because by and large they are paying for the poor to have this things.

Yes, you are correct. People in this country don't really understand the meaning of poor.

I took no offense to your comment. I have said from the beginning that I am very lucky compared to many on the streets. This is just temporary for me, sadly for many it becomes the only life that they know. I am hopeful that this will be over before the winter weather comes. If that job I interviewed for comes through even sooner.

  7. I have tired with institutions that lock me into their rules. A few of the jobs I have taken recently, gave me the attitude that given the economy, I am fully replaceable, regardless of my experience or education.

I am setting out to be an entrepreneur, as many of our fore-fathers were. The library is a fantastic place for resources on starting a business in a recession. If you can survive the worst of times, your business will flourish in the rest of times.

  8. I also have promised to startup my blog again. With God's good graces, I can reach others struggling to hold on as well.

  9. I am grateful that I was told to start blogging again. It has helped me get my feelings out.

I thought about starting my niche marketing business as well. But I just don't have the start up capital at the moment. Obviously. I wish you luck in your venture.

My job has been pretty decent to me. My hours and commission levels being cut came from corporate. I know my boss felt awful when they cut my hours. He tried to save my hours, but it was out of his hands.
